876-1 Takamiya-cho, Hikone-shi, Shiga Prefecture
The station was built for the opening of the line from Hikone to Echigawa in 1898 in an area that was part of the Takamiya-juku staging post on the Nakasendo highway.
It became a junction station in 1914 with the opening of the Taga Line.
The station concourse was large as the Taga Line also carried freight. The sidings are still in place.
There are two station platforms: a side platform for one of the tracks of the Ohmi Main Line and an island platform for the other Main Line track and the Taga Line. The wooden roof and pillars speak of its history.
The island platform, which preserves its old waiting room, is fan-shaped to follow the track of the Taga Line, an unusual format anywhere in Japan.
The station building is now a community facility.
