2-137-2 Yokaichi-Shimizu, Higashiomi-shi, Shiga Prefecture
The station was opened as Yokaichi-guchi, the terminus of the Konan Railway line from Shin-Hachiman (now Ohmi-Hachiman) to Yokaichi-guchi (now Shin-Yokaichi), which opened in 1913.
The historic station building, completed in 1922, served previously as the head office of the Konan Railway company.
Konan Railway later became Yokaichi Railway. Following a subsequent merger, the line is now the Ohmi Railway Yokaichi Line.
This was once a through-station as the railway previously extended east from here, crossing the Ohmi Railway Main Line and continuing to near Yokaichi Airfield.
In 1946, with the opening of the newest section from Yokaichi to Shin-Yokaichi on what is now the Ohmi Railway, the station became a junction station, but after the war, the line from here to the airfield was closed, leaving only faint traces today.
