The Muikamachi-Hakkaisan Ski Area on the holy ground of Mt. Hakkai, which soars above Uonuma in Niigata Prefecture, is a base for outdoor sport and touring facilities offering access to the varied delights of the four seasons. This is a year-round mountain resort offering pleasures for every season. In spring, the still snow-capped mountains of the Joshin’etsukogen National Park, in summer the cool of the ropeway ascent and the brilliant green of new foliage against the blue of the sky. In fall, with its many seasonal delicacies, the view is of golden rice fields stretched out amid vivid autumn colors, giving way in winter to the white expanse of the Uonuma Plain and sometimes a sea of clouds. Meanwhile, the ski runs boast deep layers of regularly replenished snow.
