139 Motohakone, Hakone-machi, Ashigara Shimo-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture
Situated on the shore of Lake Ashi, the Ryuguden ryokan at Takogawa Onsen has an unbeatable location with views of the lake and Mt. Fuji. Ryuguden consists of two parts, the Annex Building, a ryokan-style accommodation facility, and the Ryuguden Main Building, a hot spring facility for day visitors with fabulous views. The Ryuguden Main Building, was originally the Lake Hamanako Hotel built more than 80 years ago on the shore of Lake Hamanako in the style of the Byodoin Temple’s Phoenix Hall. Now moved to the shore of Lake Ashi, not only the facade but also the interior decor retains much of the original atmosphere. There are separate open-air baths for men and women, both of which provide views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi. The women’s facility specifically is an “infinity” bath that seems to merge into the lake. The Ryguden Annex Building, the accommodation facility, has an enviable location with all guestrooms facing Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi. The interior has bathing facilities and a large and a medium banqueting room. Small in scale with just 24 guestrooms, it is available for private hire or similar purposes.
