The park once formed part of the U.S. military’s Johnson Air Base and was restored for public use after the return of the base to the Japanese nation. The park contains avenues of somei-yoshino and yaezakura cherry trees numbering some 300 altogether, making it a favorite spot with local residents during blossom season. The park is also an oasis of greenery with its expansive lawns and many trees including red pine and konara oak. It also benefits from its location adjacent to Sayama City Museum.
